The Problem
In 1982, Bossa Nova was famously introduced to the world at Carnegie Hall, heralded by its founding members – a group of white men who were celebrated as the genre's pioneers. Yet, conspicuously absent from this narrative was Alaíde Costa, one of Brazil's most extraordinary voices and a foundational figure in Bossa Nova. Her contributions, profound and undeniable, were overshadowed by a male-dominated retelling of the genre's story, a neglect that not only distorted history but also deeply impacted her career and legacy.
The Idea
As a brand that celebrates people's journeys, Johnnie Walker decided to right this historic wrong.
The Results
